How to record online A/V streams?

Hi,

On MS Windows, we can use "mp3 recorder" or similar applications to get online audio streams like from Realplayer recorded on local disk. I wonder whether there is any software we can use on Linux to do the same thing for audio/video streams. Can anyone please provide any links for downloading the software?
