How to read vmlinuz...

HI ,

I wanted to if the kernel and the scheduler are processes?
If they were then why they dont show up when i type 'ps' in the terminal?

I also wanted to what exactly is kernel and what code does it contain..
I have read that the kernel code is present in vmlinuz in a compressed form which is decompressed after loading it into the memory. Then how to read the vmlinuz file?.

Any advice on this is welcome !!!
Thanx in advance..

Cheers
Manikool.
