how to read the signals from rs 232 port

Hi friends i am new this forum.I found this forum helping in clearing the doubts of many.I need a help from you friends.I am working on one project.As a part of the project i have to catch the signals that are sent from the rs232 port like the (signals from UPS,etc)via c- program.so i need your help in doing that.Please help me out in this.Thank you.

What help do you need??? What have you done and tried? What errors are you getting?
