How to Read RPMs?

What program/command do I need to read RPMS to install things?

trickykid 12-20-2001 05:52 PM

your question basically answers your question.. you need RPM installed on your machine to install RPM's.. most Distro's come with it default now except debian and slackware...

ptolbert 12-20-2001 06:11 PM

do you know what it is called for Red Hat?

trickykid 12-20-2001 07:02 PM

well rpm stands for Redhat Package Manager.. not sure what you mean by what it is called for Redhat... for more info on RPM view the man page with this command man rpm

Yeah, there is one GUI RPM in kde.Look for it and try.

U will find it is easy to use for it is like the common handling in windows.

Thanks I'm looking.

trickykid 12-20-2001 10:29 PM

you know.. i tried to mess with the GUI RPM interface once.. i couldn't figure it out for my life.. i find it much easier to install from command line rather than GUI.. don't know why, never worked right in the GUI for me.. just a thought.

really??? you??? unemployed??? here's a nickel (whatever that is..) make me some pie. :-P

you ever thought about employing yourself? set up as a freelance contractor and hire yourself to sort out your system. just one day a week consultency, that kinda thing. if you pay yourself enough per hour, you'll have so much more spare time...

ptolbert - try using gnorpm under gnome, or i think there's krpm for kde. or oif your on a mandrake system, rpmdrake is really really good for newbies
