How to read floppy disk drive using Red Hat Linux 8?
Hi,
I'm a newbie and I do not know how to access floppy drive using Red Hat Linux 8.0 Is there an equivalent of "My Computer" for windows on Red Hat Linux where the user can access all the drives. Thanks |
On your KDE desktop or Gnome desktop there should be a floppy icon. Stick a floppy in a double click on it.
If that doesn't work. try mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy Also.. are you trying to read a windows floppy or a linux floppy? /dev/fd0 is where my floppy is.. I don't know where yours is though.. Good Luck |
Hi,
I'm using a Genome desktop. I cannot find any floppy icon. Ok, I will try to format a Linux floppy disk. Where can I find that floppy icon? |
Have you tried mounting the floppy from the command line??
mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy You might have to su to root. What filesystem are you trying to mount?? Good Luck |
Ok, got it.
But the floppy icon will disappear if I reboot my computer. |
Excellent if you got everything working.
Have Fun |
Mount your floppy, and when you sign out, check the "Save Current Setup" box. That should keep your icon where you want it

Thank You.
I got it. cheers |
