how to read dump contents of tape driver.


hi all,

i have installed, LTO-5 in rhel 5.

now i have taken a backup using command.

dump 0uf /dev/nst0 /dir

now i want to see contents of tape.

the command tar tvf /dev/nst0 is showing error

is there any other command to see dump backup contents

What error?

Since you wrote to /dev/nst0 the tape is not rewound.

dump is not compatible with tar. Dump writes the raw data blocks that comprise files and directories whereas tar writes files and directories. Not an expert in using dump but restore -Nt will list files.
