I am taking value of a variable from gtkdialog entry
<entry> <variable>VALUE</variable> </entry>
If I entered $$$$$$ as input then if I
echo "$VALUE"
then it displays some integer values.
The variable $$ is a special shell variable: it represents the process ID of the script in which it appears or the process ID of the parent shell. You have to escape the $ sign if you want to prevent shell expansion. Try to embed the string in single quotes or escape each dollar sign using a backslash, for example \$\$\$\$.
