How to print big files quickly

I am using suse 10 and printing to hp1200 I have setup the printer with yast and I can print normal documents ,but when I have a image of more than a 1mg it takes 10-15 minutes before printing. Is there a way of alocating more memory to spooling.

1) firstly what are your hardware specs?

ram / cpu/ type of harddrive / laptop or desktop/ printer server is cups or lpr etc

please report all printer drivers you are using as well pls

2) you could consider depending on an answer to (1)

changing the priority of cups or lpr by the renice command
see man renice for info

changing your DPI for the output to a lower and therefore a faster dpi resolution?

My HP 1022 Laser will not run on USB-I. It requires USB-II. Your symptoms sound similar to what I had before I found this little nugget.

pixellany so usb2 not in kernel for suse?

try with root powers lspci and see in all the usb stuff if you can see usb2

you can compile usb 2 in a kernel but its not called usb2 (of course not heh heh) its EHCI you can check all config file in /boot

here is mine

USB Host Controller Drivers
# CONFIG_USB_ISP116X_HCD is not set
# CONFIG_USB_OHCI_HCD is not set
# CONFIG_USB_SL811_HCD is not set

2) are you using cups

you can use cups admin to change dpi

3) also check if you are using the hp drivers as you have yet to answer that bit pls?
