How to play mp3 in fedora core1
Any body know how to play mp3 in fedora core1.
Is there any programm for playing mp3,wma, and some video file (dat,mpg,wmv...) Thanks you all ! :newbie: |
Fedora core (and redhat 9) does not come with an MP3 player out of the box. However, you can get mpg123 off a CD of an old version (I have a CD of v6 that has it)
Have a look at XMMS. I think its included and it might be able to play MP3s. Also consider converting all your music to ogg vorbis - its a superior format. |
the redhat/fedora people don't believe in freedom of speech.........
so you have to download and install the multimedia software yourself.............XMMS, mplayer.......... |
ok, now i'm running under linux I can give you a better answer.
Under gnome, click on the G, then point to "Sound and video" then click "Audio Player" at the top of the list (not this is fedora 2, it might be different in fedora 1) That starts XMMS, which MIGHT be able to play MP3s, I'm not sure. |
you must install xmms-mp3 rpm package to play mp3s on XMMS!
|
thanks you !
now, i can here mp3. But what about video file like : .dat, .wmv, mpg... is there any packet for playing .wma file |
There are a multitude of video players out there but by far, the best I have found is MPlayer.
Since you are using Fedora you have access to hundreds of pre-compiled software at http://freshrpms.net/ and can use apt-get to install them with. I would go to http://freshrpms.net/ May I also recommend this thread? -------------->>> Things a noob should do after fedora install It should help you a good bit with some of the things you are looking for. |
I've downloaded file : xmmsmplayer-0.5-i686-1jm.tgz in your links
http://www.linuxpackages.net. ...but in "install" directory, there's only 1 text file. how to install it in my PC |
LOL! I am so sorry. I sent you to the wrong place. I have changed it in my previous post. Sorry, I use Slack now and put the URL for slack packages. I guess I had a 30-something moment
You need to go to http://freshrpms.net/ Once again, I am very sorry. Did you check the Fedora thread I recommended? It has 3 pages of great info. :study: |
i've read it. It's very useful.
i'll try mplayer soon! thanks you |
Just curious, I found the xmms-mp3 rpm and tried to install it, but the add/remove hardware program computed the package dependencies and said it needed but couldn't find xmms. The confusing part is, I have xmms installed, and it works just fine (except for playing mp3s). How can I have xmms installed, but the system doesn't know it's there?
|
If you download this rpm you should find that the "Music Player" (In the Sound & Video menu of FC2 - Actually "Rhythmbox 0.8.5") will then play MP3s. At least it worked for me (FC2)...
All the Best... |
download that apt from fresh rpms that will save you a ton of trouble once you have apt installed type apt-get update than apt-get install synaptic which is a graphical frontend for apt. using apt an synaptic will take care of most dependency problems
|
try out totem player, its also quite good ( can play both audio and video files at its best )
:-) |
I know it sounds crazy but on my system, xmms plays mp3's by default!!I haven't installed the mpg support plugin. It's a fresh install and beats me how this could happen.is it a bug or something?Amazing!!
