Welcome to LQ!

To play an MP3, just start amaroK, click on Actions then Play Media then specify the file (or directory) you wish to play.

There are numerous other alternatives as well, such as XMMS

lol..I think u misunderstand my question.
what i means is once i click on the .mp3 file, amarok will execute.
the file is playing but a 3 min song, finish play in less then 3sec and there is no sound comming out.
i think is the codec problem, because i can play .wav file.
hope my poor english won't misunderstand you all again.

Download xmms or xine from It's respective site
I think Amarok uses "XMMS" or "XINE"'s engine to play .mp3 or any file format it supports. But From SUSE >9.1 & Redhat >8 has a built in copyright protection to not to play any MPEG standard file (.mp3 included).:tisk:

The "XMMS" or "XINE" installed with your distro is tampered and has the protection. Check it by running xmms and the try to play a .mp3 file.:Pengy:

The files available on www.xine.hq and or .com (try a googly search) is free from protection.
Download and install the packages from those sites.

Uhmm... no (at least that's not what I heard). They took out mp3 support to avoid patent problems, and that's very different from copyright.

But sure, if I'm wrong I'm wrong, just show me the reference. Also, exactly which copyright are SuSE and RH trying to avoid the infringement of?

I don't know sure, but it's website a few months ago said so

This project is doomed due to copyright infringment with some propietry codec . It will require your support to continue in future ...
