How to permanently add localhost via xhost?

I'm running Mandrake 9.1 and have to do xhost +localhost every time I want to run linuxconf.

How or where can I permanently add localhost so that I don't have to type this every time?

I looked in the man xhost file and it noted an X*.hosts file. Unfortunatley, I can't find this file under /etc or the X11 directory. Plus if I do a locate *.host as su it cannot find any file of this description.

Can someone clarify what is actually the problem here?

Try adding this line to your /root/.bashrc.

export XAUTHORITY=/home/stephen/.Xauthority
You would change to your user name and make sure the section in your /root/.profile that reads the file is uncommented.
