how to paly multiple audio songs without selecting and hitting each time
 

hi,

i am a newbie to linux. i don't know how to play any number of songs with out selecting and hitting play button each time. presently i am playing songs using realplayer by commanding,
realplay <path of the song which need to play>

could anyone help me in this. any help would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

I'm not familiar with realplayer, but there must be a playlist option or file organizer there somewhere, where you can load up a series of files to play.

There are also any number of other media players out there that you might want to try. Just search through your available programs repository. I usually use xmms myself, which has an interface almost identical to Winamp (ver. 2) on windows. It can even use the same skins.

Thnak you very much. I downloaded xmms-1.2.10-1.src.rpm and i tried installing that one using the following command.

>rpm -ivh xmmc-1.2.10.src.rpm

I am getting the following warnings and i didn't get my xmms install.

[root@electron Desktop]# rpm -ivh xmms-1.2.10-1.src.rpm

I'm guessing you downloaded this from the xmms website, because that's a source file (the '.src' in the name). Source code has to be compiled to be usable, which can be pretty tricky for a newbie to do sometimes. But you shouldn't have to bother with that because just about every distro provides precompiled binary packages that you can use.

From other posts you made, I can see you're using FC5, so you should be able to get it through yum pretty easily. Here's a tutorial I found that should help you set it up, as well as some other common multimedia support problems:

Thank you very much for your reply.As you said, I have downloaded the xmms program from xmms site only. One thing, I am using FC5 in my lab. I am having a laptop too, in which I am having RHEL4 and windows. Can I install the one which you have mentioned in my RHEL4. Could you clear my doubt.

I'm sorry, but I really don't know that much about Redhat/Fedora, so I can't answer you in any detail. But I'm pretty sure you have to use packages designed specifically for the version in question.

So no, you probably can't use the FC packages, but there are certainly similar repositories made for Redhat there somewhere. You'll just have to do some research to find them, unless someone else here can point them out to you.

RPMForge, at least, appears to support RHEL4:

has a great playlist system: intuitive and easy to use, drag and drop files and move their order

Do try amarok (but many other player do this)
