Question how to open password protected file (by MSWord) in Linux

i have an important file but it is protected with a password i can no longer remember. How do you open it using linux?

I don't know of any free password removal tools for MS Office
products, let alone Linux ones...

But if you really want to know what TEXT is inside the file, you may get an overview with:
strings your.doc | less
