How to open Internet Explore
Hi,
Pls help me, I have configured ip in redhat9 now how to open internet explore form both GUI & command prompt to open sites. Jai |
Huh?
|
no internet explorer in Linux :)
Red Hat 9 is very old, I can't remember what browsers come with it.... Anyway, Look into something Like Fedora if you are wanting to use a Red Hat Distro. Fedora is Red Hat's free cutting edge testing distro for their enterprise software. There are a lot of browsers out there for Linux (windows too), Have a look at Firefox or Opera. |
You can run Internet Explorer on Linux using WINE or CrossOver.

IE is not available in linux, try firefox. :D
|
We can run IE in linux using WINE.
I already did it. But it's not fast as firefox. So I removed it. I personally suggest you to use firefox, opera, konqueror. |
I use Google Chrome, Firefox, or Opera. Depends on what mood I am in I guess. There is a package called IEs4Linux to give you Internet Explorer 6 and below, but it is not the same as on Windows. If I ever install Internet Explorer on my Linux machine it is only to test some web development stuff, Otherwise I just stay away from it.
I think your challenge is miscommunication and not knowing the difference between Windows and Linux. I am going out on a Limb here so I will preface this with I might be wrong and you actually do want Internet Explorer on Linux. But all in all I am assuming you meant where is the web browser in RedHat since Internet Explorer is the default Microsoft web browser that comes with Windows. It has been about 7 years since I used RedHat 9 or earlier, so I do not remember what browsers come with it. I think it comes with Mozilla Firefox, but like I said I can't really remember. I know the newer versions of RedHat Enterprise Linux come with Firefox. |
If you are a beginner and think that there is IE for Linux, trust me, that's not what you want.
Use Firefox, Konqueror, Midori, Chromium, etc. |

1. If this is really RH9 (codename Shrike), then its years old and out of date ie hasn't been updated in years: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Hat_Linux
I recommend Centos http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CentOS, the free version of Redhat Enterprise Linux (v5.4). Fedora is RH's R & D distro, bleeding edge. 2. What you want is the web browser for Linux, which is Firefox by default on RH. IE is an MS only browser. |
