Question how to open config file


how to open/edit config file using command line ... RHEL

You can use any text editor (e.g. vi, pico, nano, emacs, etc). At the prompt, you put the name of the editor you want to use followed by the filename (or full path to the file, if it isn't in the current directory), e.g.

$ vi /etc/inittab.

You may need to be root in order to be able to write to these files, so use su first.

nano is a good editor if it's installed, because it comes with help commands at the bottom of the screen.

Just type:
nano filename

For example, "nano /home/username/.mailprocrc" or "nano .mailprocrc" if you're in that directory.

Fred Is Your Friend

Personally, I like Fred - vi with menus for those of us that are "vi challenged".
