Post How to move from Linux Mint 16 to latest Ubuntu

I viewed a video on youtube on Ubuntu on smartphones which can communicate with any other device running Linux Ubuntu. I would like to try this out. But before I start I would like to read some documents on this issue.

I would backup personal stuff like Music, Movies, Books, Documents, PDFs, Pictures, ......etc first from my /home directory to a external drive or the cloud first in Mint.

Then install the ubuntu that you wish to run.

Just a generic how to to explain. Not linux specific.

I know it is for Windows but just to give you a basic idea.
