How To Mount NTFS Partition In RHEL 5
I am facing the problem in RHEL 5 in mounting ntfs file system of installed xp. I have downloaded and installed the fuse-2.6.3-1.el5.rf.i386
and fuse-ntfs-3g-1.1004-1.el5.rf.i386 rpms from dag.wieers.com but when i run the mount command which is mount -t ntfs-3g /dev/sda1 /mnt/ntfs it is showing the error message ----------------------------------------- FATAL: module fuse not found fusermount: fuse device not found,try 'modprobe fuse 'first unmounting /dev/sda6 (softwares) ----------------------------------------- Now guys suggest me what to do?????? I have also installed fuse-ntfs-3g.rpm fuse.rpm dkms.rpm dkms-fuse.rpm Initially i searched and got that i need to install fuse and fuse-ntfs-3g i installed that but when tried to mount d drive it shows d above posted erro |

Yes I tried that its showing the same message module fuse not found

Since fuse is a kernel module it will likely be specific for a certain kernel version.
Are you sure you got the correct versions? I have never used RedHat and only years ago a system based on .rpm (Suse), so I don't know enough to give halfway god advice. As a Gentoo user my advise would be: compile your own kernel - then everyting will fit together. But I don't know how hard a task that is on RedHat nor how exactly go about it. Somebody else will need to point you in the right direction - sorry. HTH anyway |

Yes i guess so its the right version as its mounting device just for a second and then after message showing unmounting drive softwares just sumthng is missing.

Look - to me it seems to be very simple: you make it hard on yourself, good advice on what to do has been given RedHat = commertial distro --> you pay to use up2date or yum with _their_ repositories ...if you don't pay, you can't use their repositories - you have to change repositories to be able to use yum or up2date... - this was at least once suggested This is what was called making it hard on yourself when it could be as easy as: installing CentOS instead of RedHat - which is exactly the same but free and the preconfigured repositories will work without fiddling around. Appearently you did not adapt your repository settings so you can use yum or up2date with your RedHat by pointing them to free locations - instead you install each rpm manually in some way which ist error prone and definetely not the easiest, to put it mildly. Few people will want to sort out a mess when it was easy to avoid it alltogether. just my current view on this matter Good luck! |

Yes i do understand what you are trying to make me understand but buddy i have tried all other linux distros they all are fine because either they are already pre configured and designed for mp3,flv,documents and all or can update itself from any location i have tried all these things in Centos,Mandriva,Open Suse,Fedora 11 everything is fine with them.
But the thing is Redhat is mainly used at the server side in most of the big brands its been used,others are client linux so just want to explore things and learn more and more dont want to miss any basics as well Or you can say that i have a zeal to learn or learning is my hobby may be seem funky but i like it . I am done with windows mostly all done want to try something new and designed few basic sites like www.neerajrawat.com www.expertsgalaxy.com now i want to go for few professional sites for that i need good security at the server side for that i need to learn each and everything about RHEL hope you got me anyways loads of thanks for your replies these things i will sort it either here or anywhere lets see where here also i landed up using google hope it will take me something new but here also i got few nice replies regarding my queries but the thing that surprised me that number of views are more then replies |
I'm pretty sure that RedHat is equally able to support all the things you mention as are all the other distributions.
CentOS is "not commercial RedHat" and otherwise the same - so it was said. Where it gets difficult then is when you want it to do the same, but do not provide the system with the requirements to be able to do that (pointing it to software-repositories you are allowed to use without a license). That being the case is the impression I got - sorry if I got that wrong. I have often seen the number of views being much greater than the number of replies - and would not conclude only by this that people are "less willing to reply". Maybe there is just nothing to say - all has been said already. Maybe it is an interesting topic and it is used as an opportunity to learn from other peoples problems. I often only view and subscribe to threads I know nothing about - just to have the opportunity to learn something from other peoples answers - just in case I'd need that knowledge someday. I never got the impression that people are holding back here for whatever reason. Take me as an example: I said I never used RedHat - and could have decided to just be quiet because an uninformed guess can be worse for someone having a problem than saying nothing at all. I tried anyway...and then said that going further would be over my head. ...and I suspect, that your last sentence in the above post could be easily misundersood by some people...
