mount -t cifs -o username=server_user,password=server_password
//192.168.44.100/share_name /path_to/mount_point
the CIFS server is windows 2003 server, it can be mounted, but now the problem I met is I couldn't browse the files in that CIFS share from the linux client, but I can create a new file within that CIFS share from linux, and I can truly view the contents of the files from windows. so what's going wrong there?
pls check the credential of the folder that you are mounting in windows side, may it has restrictions in the windows side for the specified user.
thnx
Thanks for your reply.
the windows user is my domain administrator, and it has full control on that particular folder. so I could't see the possibility there. Thanks very much.
Andy
Depending on the distribution you use you could go to Places -> Connect to Server and select "Windows Share". This will not work in Ubuntu 8.04 but works in other versions of Ubuntu. I use Ubuntu 8.04 so I have to use a program called smb4k which basically asks for the same parameters - host name (ip address), username and password, etc.

Thanks, I guess I should give smbclient a shot to see if samba can help me over this.
