How to make it a default application?

hi. How do you make a program to be the default program when i open a certain file in the file browser? For example, i want to open all .wmv extensions with my xine player. I tried right-clicking and selecting the "Open With..." but it does not save its settings the next time i click on that file. I'm using fedora core 4. Thanks.

If you use KDE, you have to open kcontrol. Then Components / File association.
Browse for .wmv extension (or use the search facility) then add your favorite player on top of the list.

Also in KDE, there's a checkbox in the Open with... dialog to save the association permanently.

How do i do that in X-windows? I'm using X-windows by the way... thanks.

X-windows? What's that? I only know the X Window System, which provides the infrastructure for GUI programs and Window Managers (like icewm) or whole Desktop Environments (like KDE, Gnome, et al).

So, which is it?

Greetings,
Benjamin

X window, sorry. I think its GNOME...

no idea about gnome. You should probably start a new thread for that.

right-click on file --> open Properties

on one of the tabs, you can set the default application
