How to make and understand RPMs
Hi there,
I am used to install, query or remove RPMs in my Fedora box, but now I need to make my own RPM starting from a previous one, so, I'd like to know how they operate? how can I make my own one? and so on ... Thanx in advance, Wilmer |

Go the the RedHat website. Somewhere under Documentation, you will find the book (700+ pages) Maximum RPM. Written by the good folks at RedHat, it will tell you everything there is to know about rpm. You can study it on-line, or download it.
One of my greatest pleasures using Linux occured the day I successfully used the information in that book to upgrade my Webmin installation from .tar.gz to .rpm by editing the .spec file of my existing installation to a newer version not yet offered by the distro I used at that time. |
