how to make an image of a virtual server?

Hi!
I have a virtual server that I use as a web-server. I do not have a physical access to it, and was wondering how to make an image of the server though the network. In case something goes wrong, I'd like to be able to restore everything (data, configuration and installed softwares).
I know about recovery CD, but noting about how to restore when you don't have physical access to the server.

Perhaps using the 'dd' command. You can do a remote ssh command using dd over the network.

The other option is purchasing a commercial software like Acronis TrueImage which has a live bootable CD which can create, restore, and deploy the image remotely over the network. Get the 30-day free trial and try it out.
