how to log in with ssh without having someone log into the machine

Hi,

I have 2 machines. One linux and one Windows. I have setup a SSH service on the linux. On the windows, I have installed putty. Using putty, I have been able to log into the linux without much trouble. BUT only if a user has been logged into the linux machine.

I would like to be able to turn on the linux machine and without having any user logged in, be able to log in from the windows. Is this possible? How do I do this?

well that should be normal. Offhand I've no idea what could be causing that. Look at the logs, /var/log/secure and /var/log/messages for clues

My mistake. The source of the problem was my router. It kept changing my local IP address. The problem was getting the right IP, not logging into the machine.
