I use FreeBSD and I see that my /proc is totally empty.

I would like to by a new ATA 100 HDD but first I should know if it will be compatible with my HDD controller. I have however no documentation for my motherboard, so I need the help of Unix. Any idea?

Well I don't know about freebsd. But for linux you could use the command dmesg. All that information comes from the log files anyways. I'm sure they've got similar information in /var/log for freebsd.
