How to know?

Hi all,
When using tar to backup, it'll be an error if there is no tape in drive. Anyone know use of shell script to test the existence of tape in drive?
Thanks in advance!

I've never used tape drive, but I suppose that you need to mount it before doing your backup.
So have a look at /proc/mounts to test if your tape drive is mounted... If that's ok you can do your backup
