How to isntall and use .iso dvd burning utility from live mint 16 DVD Downloads Folde
 

No matter how many times I've read all your replies to my threads, and searched documentation page after page, I'm still stuck without a Linux OS! Why? Let me count the reasons:

1) I have downloaded both an .iso file of Bodhi 2.4.0-64 bit and Puppy Precise 5.7.1 to my 32GB Mushkin USB Drive. What's the problem(s)? First, how the hell am I supposed to burn one or both of these to a DVD disc if I want to? This might seem foolish with the Puppy .iso file. OK. How do I run the .iso file on my flash drive in anything to get it to install on my single hdd? With the Bodhi .iso file, I literally/physically can't burn the damn file because my DVD Player's single bay is already being used by the Linux Mint 16 "Live" DVD disc! So, I figure I've burned both images for no useful or good purpose at all. Silly me, I thought there should be some way to convert the .iso images to actual installation files I could use on my PC.

2) Next, I downloaded from the Internet an .iso copy of Sabayon Linux into Mint's Downloads folder. How do I make use of this .iso file, when I can't figure how to install this distro correctly from the Downloads folder via the Terminal window?

3) After completely throwing up my hands in frustration, and thinking the whole idea of installing ANY other Linux distro through its .iso file other than Linux Mint 16 was doomed because of the Mint .iso disc sitting in my DVD Player/Burner.

4) Finally there are these "minor" annoyances and problems. Almost without exception, every ISO DVD Burner I reviewed only worked on Windows. Great! Last, but not least, there is the matter of partitioning my Linux distro efficiently. Should I forget about ever running Win 7 and one or more Linux distros again? The dual-boot option or solution seemed to be frowned upon and rejected by the majority of editors and users. How about running different distros and even Windows in a VirtualBox or VMWare environment? Even more difficult for me to understand how to set the configuration up properly in the first place. Ahhhh, now to my last desperate gasp/attempt. Why not just install the LVM program (utility) and forget about using a dual (or more) boot system OR even Virtual Management software? That's it for now, the more answers I find or am told, the more questions I have.

So, my situation couldn't be better. No OS installed on my 500GB drive. No knowledge of how to burn and then install a distro from the two .iso files on my flash drive. And last, but not least, no idea whether to choose a VM program, LVM install, or simply give up and buy a not live, but installation distro DVD.

Burn the dvd using your resident OS - the one on your hard disk.

Assuming you have windows, download and burn the dvd while you are running windows.

Then boot the dvd and follow the instructions - plus any installation instructions on the distro site.

harryhaller is correct, burning from the installed OS is the easiest method. If you dont have windows or another OS installed to the HDD, there are other things you can do.

Oh my goodness. You have an issue, but rather than trying to find a solution, you dig the hole deeper?

You could just install Mint 16 (most live CDs/DVDs can be used to install, Mint 'live' CDs/DVDs sure can).

You could use a USB flash drive. You can install to the flash drive, or move a .iso to it and use it as a live USB (with the correct method, you cant just copy and paste).

Either way, you'll have a linux install/live USB that frees up the DVD drive to burn the other .isos.

Well, if you're a windows only user thats not suprising.

There are plently of burning programs for linux that support burning .isos.

Umm.....you've done an in depth statistical analysis on dual booting and review pages? I'd like to see the numbers.

Who really cares if some users, reviewers or editors like or dont like a solution? Its software and your use, not some pointless populatity constest.
