Open a term and enter command 'locate theme | less' to see where themes are installed in 9.1. In my 8.2 install, I find them in /opt/gnome2/share/themes, /opt/kde3/share/apps, and a few application specific locations.

Since you're doing it from tarball, read the INSTALL and README carefully. Getting SuSE to recognize them may take a bit of tweaking.

What kind of theme? Please be more decisive next time.

For kde styles on suse. untar the file and :

./configure --prefix=/opt/kde3/lib;make;make install

For gnome just extract the tarbal into your ~/.themes directory.

I don't use suse so the prefix maybe incorrect, I suggest you find out where your kde install directory is located to determine that.
