Welcome to LQ!!! But it's much easier&faster to web-search than post a general beginner question.

Jump in and try some things, then post precisely what you tried
(or the web-search keywords you tried)
and what specifically happened, which wasn't what you wanted/expected.

Feel free to post about how things go, on this topic, in this thread!

Enjoy discovering zillions of Linux 'things' p.s. Do you prefer CLI or GUI?

This web-search finds lots of great articles:

Package search and install
# yum search [name] (or part of name)
# yum install [package-name]

File search
# yum provides */file-name
.... will reply with package names.

Extra repo´s https://wiki.centos.org/AdditionalRe...s/Repositories
... Recommended is EPEL : https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/EPEL
I.e. no conflicts when doing # yum update

If you are using the GUI, there's a nice package manager in the menu under System Administration.

Do visit the link given by knudfl in post 4, which explains where to get stuff and the importance of using the Priorities plug-in for yum to prevent nasty accidents. That's necessary if you use the RPMfusion repository, where you can get the media codecs that are left out of CentOS because they are patented in the USA.
