How to Install Program to Palm TX with JPilot?
I've installed JPilot and, while it syncs with my TX, I can't figure out how to install a program with it. I tried downloading one and unzipping, and it downloaded to my desktop on my PC, but didn't install automatically like Palm desktop always did. When I tried to use the install tool in Jpilot, it would no longer sync.
I need a way to read .txt files on my TX since I have no way to convert files to .pdb anymore - the program I had was only for Windows. Thus, I need to install some kind of reader of large txt files onto my TX. I found the JPilot manual online, and the way it says to install is exactly what I did. But as long as I have files to install, JPilot refuses to sync. It keeps coming up with the "install" screen instead of syncing and then the program finally locks up. Should I uninstall JPilot, install GPilot to see if I can install a text reader better with that, and the uninstall that and re-install JPilot once I have a text reader on my Palm? I hear people saying they have trouble with GPilot, but maybe if I just get it to install a program? ------------------------ Edited because I realized that JPilot locks up when I try to install anything, not just prc programs. I can't even install a .txt file without it locking up on the install screen. |
Have you tried Abiword?
To make text files readable on a Palm I use Abiword or OpenOffice Writer to make Doc files (.pdb) from text documents. Just open the text file in either program and do a "Save As" and select "Doc(.pdb)" as the file type.
I move them over to the Palm with the KDE Obex Client via Bluetooth. I have never been able to get a Palm TX to sync reliably. Does yours synch properly and repeatably? Good luck. C |
Hi, I have had My TX for a while now (about 7 months) and have enjoyed every minute of it.
I have a solution for you. |
To convert .txt files to a palm format such as .prc, use MakeDocW.exe which you can find here :
http://www.ericphelps.com/favorites/utilities.html And I use Mobipocket reader to read these files once installed on My TX. Mobipocket you get here: http://www.mobipocket.com/en/Downloa...ailsReader.asp I have converted installed and read about 100 full length books on My TX in the last 6 months. Good luck. |
