how to install new themes in kubuntu 12.04
I am new to kde and I tried to use the Customize the desktop theme through the Desktop Theme-KDE Control Module by clicking get new themes and choosing one that I liked and then I clicked install and it behaved like it was doing something, then it changed from install to uninstall so I went to look for the new theme. I can not find it. My question is did it download and if so how do I use the new desktop theme?
Thank you Jonnynitro138 |
Try this-
Code:
$ sudo apt-get install kubuntu-desktop |
Once you have KDE up and running you need to click the Kick start button also known as the K menu. From there select applications, from there select settings and from there select system settings and there you will se lots of options then just click on Workspace appereances you will see there Desktop themes.
remember what are the default so you can go back to the way it was in case you didnt like the changes. From these settings too you can modify the desktop effects which are compiz like but KDE native. Good luck to you! |

Hi. How are things going? Thank you for your information. I found how to get new themes and change them from one to another, but what is happening when I download a new theme through the Desktop Theme-KDE Control Module is that I can not find. It's like the theme just doesn't download or it just disappears. The new theme isn't in appearances, downloads (public or private); very odd :) Thank you again Jonnynitro138 |
Some themes may not install for whatever reason but most of them should, there's also more options when you click Install for some themes, so might wanna try that too. New themes shoud be in Workspace Appearance > Desktop Theme, select one and click Apply.
Having Kubuntu 12.04 and new themes are installing correctly. |
Hope you're still enjoying kubuntu! I've had your problem before too. I don't know what happens to the ones that won't install; probably nothing. You can go to http://kde-look.org/ and download the installation files directly from there. You can get themes for splash, log-in screen, wallpaper, etc. If you are wondering where the files go when they are correctly installed, look through /usr/share/kde4/apps/ ...../ksplash/themes/ .... kdm/themes/ ......desktoptheme/, etc.
Have fun! |

Thank you
Kubuntu is fun I use it more than Ubuntu these days because of the way you can make and use so much eye candy. Thank you for the tip on the themes. Jonnynitro138 Enjoy the summer |
