how to Install LINUX and XP on diff. H/D connected to same machine
I have two H/D and i need to install XP and RHEL5.3 in different H/D connected to single machine.so that when i boot from first H/D linux will boot or if i choose second XP will boot.
Could it be a possible situation?if yes then need some tips. |
This is the easiest type of installation. What distribution are you going to install? Does this have anything to do with the stuck computer in your other post?

Install XP on the first hard drive. Install RHEL on the second, and install the grub boot loader on the MBR of the second drive.

I agree with jschiwal's method, install XP first then Linux, I just don't see the relevance of Grub's location. Play Bonny! :hattip: |
just need a clearification
MBR is stored in first 512KB of harddisk(nonvolatile) and there are two diff harddisk so there must be diff MBR. So in my Openion order of installing the OS dosen't matter. Please correct me if i am wrong. |
its easy use bios to select the disk you want to use..
example disk 1 (XP) Disk2 (Linux) goto bios everytime you open your pc and select disk you want to use |
last reply confirmed that i was correct.
i know this is crazy but can't we do something in bios so that it asks for harddrive automatically(without going into BIOS). as grub did when two or more OS are installed in a single harddrive. :p |
You'll stiil need to install grub so as to access ubuntu.
Just install to mbr of ubuntu hd. |
