How to Install General Software on RH9 Linux

Hi Everbody,

I am pretty new to Linux. Have not worked so much on it. I am keen to know how to install any software or application on linux .

Please cud someone, tell it by giving an example of some standard useful tool widely used in Linux. I am using Red Hat 9.0.

Hi,
To install software on RH9, you got to start a terminal and type the following command, where for example's sake let's take our software package to be abc.rpm (all software on Red Hat comes as .rpm packages):-

Code:

rpm -ivh abc.rpm

That's it

But...
What about 'make' and 'install' tools. Are they really something like tools or they are inbuilt commands?
