how to install gaim


i am newbie to linux, i just installed linux mandrake 9.1, and i want to install a newer version of gaim, i download the .tar file and when i "unzip" its show a "directory" with a bunch o files, how i install this program? , please i new especifics instruction cause i am veryyyy newww to this, THANKS!!!

Try reading the README file or the INSTALL file. There should be one or both of them there. One of them will show you how to install gaim. More than likely, you'll have to do :

./configure && make
make install (as root)

to install.
