How to install Fluxbuntu from the iso file ?
 

Dear guys,

I have downloaded the Fluxbuntu from the internet. I liked it because my system has low specs. In my drive the CD-ROM is not recognized because my drive is faulty.

I want to install Fluxbuntu from its iso. I have searched the internet for 2 days for a solution but cannot find. I have created partitions and everything ready. Please tell me the way how can I do it.

Mmmm, do you have a working linux installation?

Alternatively you should be able to use a pen drive, if your BIOS can boot from USB devices.

EDITED: I asked because you can install grub and use it to boot an iso, I think (though I've never done it). However, I just discovered that there's a windows installer for grub, which means that you don't need linux to install grub on your boot sector. That will ease the whole thing if you don't have an already working version of linux installed.

I used aero studio 2008 to modify my boot.ini and put

C:\Avldr.bin="Avlgo - fluxinstaller.iso"

So, when I choose the 2nd option to install linux, everything goes very fine. From loading the kernel to many modules. But it suddendly check for hardware, when it finds a CD-ROM drive, the setup says this needs to be mounted and asks for continue to me. I cannot continue without mounting and setup stops.

But how can a drive be mounted which cannot recognize data itself. So, is'nt there any way to just skip this ? Can I choose "more options" and do sth so that I can go on.

I can't be sure but the problem must be in the flux iso, I guess. Maybe it's trying to mount the cd drive for some reason when it's not really needed, and hangs there?

There's is any change if you insert any cdrom and leave it mount?

Of if you unplug the cdrom power cable temporarily?

You can also try to disable it with a boot parameter, though I have no idea how would you pass them using the windows boot loader...

How about you post some system specs, is this a desktop pc or a laptop?

Some distro's allow installing from an ISO file either on a partition or via an NFS or samba share on another computer. You could install a "web install" image to a usb pendrive and in the options for the installation source select the iso file. If that doesn't work, you could try a web install instead. I installed SuSE to a powerpc. I kept getting read errors in the DVD drive. I burned a small CD ISO image and selected the repository as the installation source.

There may be other options such as PXE boot, or installing the boot install system to a small partition.

Look for a fluxbuntu wiki. It may have a number of installation options spelled out.

1.6 GHZ
Intel 845GLLY - Motherboard with intel processor
40 GB HDD
3 partitions C,D,E - 10 gb each
10 gb free space that I have kept for Linux ( When once installed I will give it 40 gb)
Windows professional installed
CD-Drive - not working in many cases, maybe malfunctioning due to time
USB drives - All working ( Have an option USB boot in BIOS) but when I tested using some testing software in many sites, none responds i.e never boots from it. Network too but never tried i.e. I see press F12 to boot from network.

What more ?
