how to install Ethernet Drivers
Hi All,
I have installed RHEL-5 last night, and after the successful installation of OS, I was not able to connect to the internet. I am using static IP for my machine, and later came to know that there is some problem with the drivers here. Later downloaded the required drivers as well for ethernet (eth0 3c501). But when I unzip the drivers tar-zip, I get few files with extensions '.cmd', '.symvers', '.ko', '.o' and '.c' . How can I install these drivers when there is no .bin file there. Am I going wrong somewhere ? Thank you, Kapil. |
Have a look to see if there is a README or a HOWTO file included. Usually there is, and it will contain the instructions on where to copy the files.

Why do you need to install drivers for 3c501? Doesn't the kernel already have a driver?

i would call your Red Hat tech rep that you paid for .
red hat requires you to buy the software updates ( including the SECURITY UPDATES ) if you did not buy $$$ RHEL5 i would install CentOS 5.3 the network drivers ( for a cable connection ) are already built in to the system , there is NO need to install anything else. |
