I am new to Linux. Have to install packages and softwares on Linux ?? what are commands ?

It depends on which distro you use. anishakaul's command(s) might reveal that

Why did you say "might" ? Does the command fail in some cases ?

Not all distro follow your release example;

'uname -a && cat /etc/slackware-version' would be one example. So the 'might' is valid.

Is there a command which works like a standard on all Linux distros ?
