How to install Digital Paint: Paintall 2 Instructions?

I'm a n00b and I can't find out how to install this game on linux Kubuntu... I've tried tons of different things, without success. I downloaded paintball2_build029_linux_full.tar.gz, extracted the file, and don't know where to go from here. I've never downloaded software from a .tar.gz 'source' (that's what its called, right?) so I have no idea what to do from here. Any help?

Update: I'm having trouble now (I've got the game running) but a

/home/mine/Paintball2/paintball2: symbol lookup error: pball/pics/testl.dat: undefined symbol: _vsnprintf

error keeps stopping me from completing a round in the game... it crashes every 3-5 mins.

the instructions on that thread didn't work for me... I installed the game again, then ran
mine@my-desktop:~$tar -xvzf paintball2_build026_linux_full.tar.gz

and got:

tar: paintball2_build026_linux_full.tar.gz: Cannot open: No such file or directory
tar: Error is not recoverable: exiting now
tar: Child returned status 2
tar: Exiting with failure status due to previous errors

so... I'm still stuck.

Are you sure you typed the file name correctly?
mine@my-desktop:~$tar -xvzf paintball2_build026_linux_full.tar.gz
and:
mine@my-desktop:~$tar -xvzf paintball2_buildO26_linux_full.tar.gz
are not the same file name.
(I'm not sure the red character is wrong, I use this as an example.l and 1, o and 0 are other commonly misreads or mistypes.)

OK... so I've tried a couple things (I had typed it correctly, btw) but this is what I get now:

Paintball 2 -- Version 2.0
couldn't exec configs/default.cfg
Console initialized.

------- sound initialization -------

load ./snd_oss.so failed: No such file or directory
------- Loading ref_pbgl.so -------
LoadLibrary("ref_pbgl.so") failed: No such file or directory
recursive shutdown
Error: Couldn't load gl refresh!

What things? How and where did it install? You say the link that troop listed didn't work, so what did you do to install it? The reason I pointed out the typing issue is that I noticed your title:

and (just now) that you say:

Linux is picky about spelling and case (for good reason). If the above link didn't work for you, we (or I, at least) need to know how and where you installed the software to be of further assistance.

Hey, thanks for the help-- I found out how to get it running this morning:

*right click on paintball2*

-actions: open terminal here-

mine@my-desktop:~/paintball2$ /home/perkins/paintball2/paintball2

and then it ran. AS for the 026 and 029 spelling problems, I've installed multiple versions of the game to see if there was any difference. Thus, in the end, it didn't make any difference.

However, when I run the game now, it crashes on me with this error:

/home/mine/Paintball2/paintball2: symbol lookup error: pball/pics/testl.dat: undefined symbol: _vsnprintf

So.. I can't ever finish the game because it crashes about every 3 minutes... any help on this?

I'm running the game from the terminal since I can't find any other way to run it--- and that's what pops up.

(btw: I had tried the make install, ls paintball2, and other things... I guess I just didn't do those right)

I deleted the .dat file (on an older version of the game, i still have the new one) but it kicks me out do to a hardware check now...
