how to install device drivers for my pc


i tried to install my touchpad driver but only ended my downloading a .tar file which i then extracted and hit a dead-end..
please any help at all

Most of the time tar file contain readme files which contain instructions how to install the device driver. Also did you provide very little information. Could you post what os you are using and what the version is, And what type of touchpad and cOmputer do you have. Posting the result of lspci can be very informative.
