How to install D-Link DWL-520 Rev.A2
I am attempting to install a D-Link DWL-520 Rev.A2 on a machine running Lycoris. I have never had to install any hardware that wasn't recognized automatically by the OS. I believe Linux support is available for this card because it is being used by LocustWorld in their Meshbox which is Linux-based. Can someone tell me what I need to do to install this card?

Have you tried to google?
The line: 'D-Link DWL-520 Rev.A2 linux' and that [I feel lucky] -button leads you all the way to the source. Also you should check the linux-wlan in general and especially the FAQ. |
I googled D-Link DWL-520 Rev.A2 linux and all that showed up was a portion of a mailing list. The title was "Re: /opt/kernel, depmod" and the info inside was not especially helpful to me.
Does Linux-Wlan support the DWL-520 Rev.A2? I looked at that already. It shows that it is a Prism chipset, but doesn't list it as a tested card. http://www.linux-wlan.org/docs/wlan_adapters.html Also, I intended my question to be more general. To make this card work, will it require a kernal recompile, a file download, etc.? As I said in my original post, I haven't ever done this type of thing. |
What you need to have is

That was actually the correct site. It contained two urls, other referring to the driver, other to the dlink web page that had an entry 'Which D-Link wireless adapters have Linux drivers available?' leading ultimately to linux-wlan site containing the information you need to survive with especially this card.
You are right I misread the original question. The previous message should contain the main issues about using wlan in linux. See the wlan howto and/or the wlan guide written by Jean Tourrilhes for indepth information about wireless and linux. |
