Backtrack4 has a black boot "screen".

The install DVD is using grub.
( Most other Linux uses isolinux / syslinux.)

Did you compare the checksum ?
You may have a corrupt DVD.
May be burn at a slower rate.

It will be set as default in Grub, when installed.
Other OS will be added to the boot menu too.

seems to me that you have corrupted cd. Try with other linux distro that you have available.

You should consider a better distro. Backtrack is a limited use distro. It is geared for hackers not newbie or even guru's that have no need for it's uses.

Some older systems will not boot to a dvd drive. How old is your system? Does it boot to any dvd? Does the dvd boot on any other system?

You can and always should check the md5 or shal of your download. Also burn at slowest speeds.

To check the disk you can view contents. If it only has one file named backwahever.iso you burned it wrong.

The version, I have is Backtrack4 pre4.

I probably got it here
http://distrowatch.com/index.php?dis...h=all&year=all
>>> http://www.backtrack-linux.org/downloads/
> http://www.backtrack-linux.org/download.php?fname=bt4f
.. then please check the MD5 sum, when it is downloaded :

( I guess, your burn application will show it.)
