How can I install arialbd.ttf fonts on my slackware server

As root, copy the font files to /usr/share/fonts/TTY, then run fc-cache. If you don't have a TTY or truetype directory, just create one.

I used to do this. I don't any more, except when I feel playful, because the available open source fonts have improved so much since my early Linux days.

Unfortunately, the webpage from which I learned this is long gone, so I can't give credit where it is due.
