How to install and use GARNOME?
Could anyone possible post a step by step on how to set up and use GARNOME? I have downloaded garnome-2.5.92.tar.bz2 and extracted the files to /home/matthew/Downloads/garnome-2/garnome-2.5.92
From here I do not know how to install or use GARNOME? I want to use it to download the new GNOME 2.6 for my desktop (I am running Redhat 9) Many thanks. I'd like to thank all who have helped me, the linux community gives a great impression to anyone viewing this site. Boggit |
I would guess it's the ./configure;make;make install combo.
Is there an INSTALL or README file in the untarred directory? |
The only information it comes with can be found here: http://www.gnome.org/~jdub/garnome/
Unfortunately I am too new to linux to understand exactly what to do :( |
Firstly, ensure you have all of the programs listed installed. Without them, you will get errors.
The install docs are awful (IMO) ;), but I found a few sites by putting garnome install into Google. http://www.freax.eu.org/wiki/index.p...ora%20core%201 http://linux.box.sk/newsread.php?newsid=771 may be of help |
Thanks very much XavierP. Is there a way to check in a terminal if a program is installed or not?

try
#pkg-config --modversion <name of the package> Cheers |
Garnome only upgraded to 2.5
Does anyone know why Garnome upgraded my system to 2.5.92 (version of garnome I downloaded) and not 2.6? It said under the version 2.5.92, GNOME 2.6 Desktop & Developer Platform Release Candidate 1.

Garnome for 2.6 isn't out yet. There is a work around I heard to get it to install the latest and greatest but unfortunately I'm not sure where this work around is documented.
|
no, it isn't the ./configure && make deal
Go to the garnome directory and type "cd desktop" then type: "make paranoid-install" |
