Introduction to Linux - A Hands on Guide
This guide was created as an overview of the Linux Operating System, geared toward new users as an exploration tour and getting started guide, with exercises at the end of each chapter.
For more advanced trainees it can be a desktop reference, and a collection of the base knowledge needed to proceed with system and network administration. This book contains many real life examples derived from the author's experience as a Linux system and network administrator, trainer and consultant. They hope these examples will help you to get a better understanding of the Linux system and that you feel encouraged to try out things on your own.

How to install a printer - Brother MFC-8460N. I have a P to P network. I am using Ubuntu 8.04 on a HP dv2500tw laptop.
Is there a link somewhere with a step by step walk through?
I messed around with this driver in my ignorance and hosed my system once before. That's why it finally dawned on me to ask for help in how exactly does one install a driver in Linux. Coming from the win world it seems so confusing to me.
a lot of the time, I think you will find that the drivers are already preinstalled with Ubuntu 8.04 and usally it should be the same with the others, I installed my HP all in one printer without having to download it within Ubuntu Studio, but it could be diffent.

Oh, sorry. I have a new Brother multifunction printer and I just followed the instructions on the Brother site and it worked for me (not on Ubuntu, though). Did you follow their instructions? Where did it come unstuck?
For me I went into the Print properties in Ubuntu, and it saw my printer plugged in and I clicked it, and there was a list of drivers for all the printers there, and then I selected HP from the list, and then I clicked my HP modal, (Which I can't remember of the top of my head because I'm at tafe at the moment LoL) and it all worked, which was great.
