HOW-TO Install a Printer
I recently bought a HP PSC1205 printer/scanner/copier
So far as I can tell, I have downloaded all the necessary printer drivers but I don't seem to be up and running. Can anyone help?!? |
Try http://www.linuxprinting.org/ and if you can't get it working from there, post what happened. I've used this for HP printers - they have drivers and it works well.

ptal-init
I have (or, at least, I think I have) downloaded and installed all necessary drivers and rpms from linuxprinting.org.
When I then try to run: ptal-init setup I get: command not found What do I need to establish information-wise then proceed to do? Thanks |
Have you tried running that command as root?
|
Yep!
[root@main annemarie]# ptal-init setup
bash: ptal-init: command not found !?! |
Annie,
Shoot me if you must. I've only setup printers using CUPS with the hpijs drivers, and have never used hpoj. I've spent a good deal of time reading about it from http://hpoj.sourceforge.net/ and it's quite complicated. However, I think you can find the information you need from Tim Waugh's site here -> http://cyberelk.net/tim/hpoj.html |
