How to increase the ram size in Linux?


I have a 512MB ram in my rhel as4 and I want to increase it to 1 gb.Could any one detail me of how to accomplish the task.Im a newbie...

open box, put in new stick of ram, close lid.

Just plug in the extra RAM, that's all you should need to do. As long as you stay clear off 4GB, your current kernel should be OK.

PS:
acid and jay are of course assuming that you first acquire the right kind of RAM stick......

Can you supply the model number and brand of your motherboard?

Are you familiar with the basic procedure for avoiding static damage?
