If it's a partition, you can use gparted to decrease the / partition, and resize the /home
Please post the output from

df -h

when i typed df -h i got 3 mount points

file system size used mounted on
/dev/sda2 50g 17g /
/dev/sda1 494M 14m /boot

/dev/sda2 50g 17g /
Seems to me there is enough space.
You have 33 GB free.

When are you getting this error?

Do you have some sort of disk quota on your user id?
If this is the case then talk to your administrator.

Otherwise, the easiest way is to create/find an unused partition and mount it under /home. You will first need to backup the existing content of /home to this new partition before mounting it to /home! You will also need to update /etc/fstab.

Hope this helps.
