how to increase file cache? for art work

using linux for a computer based art piece - the general idea is that you start of with one file on the desktop that starts with a phrase which you click it then links with another file with another phrase as the title - a folder within a folder within a folder etc. some of them have more than one folders or forks* basically by the time i get to the 20th folder it becomes really slow and often crashes (there is nothing else on this computer) just wondering if theres a way to prevent this? increase the memory or something?

thanks lucy

Hi, welcome to LQ!

I'm afraid I can't quite figure out what you're doing (trying to
do) given your description. What's with the folders, clicking and
linking? As for memory usage: what does the system report back
about memory usage when you encounter that slowness?

Can you offer some information?

1) What distro are you using?

2) What are the specs of the computer?

3) What windows manager are you using? (GNOME?)
