How to imigrate to linux forever
 

does someone have tips to stay in linux i have a hard time becauses of win2k and gaming.. :(

well, if you play alot of games.. its usually good to have a machine dual booted with windows.. i don't play many games so i have no need for windows... except my scanner and printer.. no support yet there...

but with games, you can try using Wine, but isn't always stable to get it working to emulate windows games..
Win4Lin maybe...

the only way to do it is just to say goodbye. wait to you get kind of comfortable and just let it go. then when you really want to play a game or to do something you will find a way. if win 2k is always there its just to easy to switch back. at least thats what i did and that was like about 6 months ago and i am so happy i did

wine and other emulators will not play all games, i dual boot with XP but i use it only for games, if your a big gaming fan you will need a dual boot, or see what wine will work with, if it fits your game category than give that partition to the penguin!!!!!!

WineX is a fork designed especially for games.

There's nothing wrong with dual-booting.
If you really want to move to Linux, check out all that you can do to make it happen.
Sometimes having both Windows and Linux running and keeping the pros and cons on a balance is the best way to do it. If the scale tips completely one way, it may be time to face reality and make any needed changes.

I was sleepy yesterday.. and I rm -rf /mnt/c (NEVER use root when ur sleepy) ... well i think its better, becouse i lazy and i wont install winboze again.. im migrating :)) Also im not playin a lot of games ( frozen-bubble.org rulez). The problem is CDRW and printer.. but im gonna solve them... Don't think much.. rm -rf /mnt/c :))

I would like to hook a question here... Does Wine run games? Should we need to install the game first with Windows, boot with Linux and run e.g: wine megaman.exe or could we install a wingame directly with Linux using wine? How hard is to make it work and, is there any DirectX emulators for Linux or does Wine also the job.

- Well, I still could not migrate totally to Linux, but I prefer it then M$ win. I'm using ONLY Linux in an older computer of mine and trying to install everything I need to use with M$. So far, my scanner and joypads does not work, and some crucial programs, like lmule, don't want to run in my system... as soon as I got it to run, it's good bye to M$....
It's a good thing if you have 2 computers or make a dual boot, if everything you need works under Linux, there's no need to win :)

- In addition, there are few, but good games available for Linux as Quake 3, Unreal T., Soldier of Fortune, Sim City 3000, The Sims, Heavy Gear 2. (I've heard, but never find to buy, the great Neverwinter NIghts). To make they run is another question ;). And consoles emulators runs just fine and usually faster then for Win IMHO. (as xmame, final burn, snes9x... )

as stated above there is nothing wrong with dual booting
i ran mandrake 9 only for a while but recently went back to XP and mdk
under xp i can reliably play DVD's and can play one or two games that wont install under Linux

under Linux I can do everything else

my wife is soon to start a beginners computer course and though I have suggested she turn up and exclaim in disgust "what, NO linux machines???"
she never-the-less wants to start with windows as that is what the uni' machines have on them

at first with linux i was SO keen to run it as the only OS, then later realised that this was not necesary
keep XP off the net, thus I need no anti-virus, firewall, yadda yadda etc
