how to get the Graphics installed from Basic Server

I have installed RHEL6.1 on a VM created using Oracle VirtualBox.

Unfortunately I installed the Basic Server. Now i am getting a Black colored login prompt. It is not taking to X Windows.
In order to change that I have made the required changes in /etc/inittab by selecting the Run Level to'5'. Still No change.

Did you install the x-windows system?????

Code:

yum groupinstall "X Window System" Desktop
That will give you the Gnome desktop environment.

Servers don't have the X Server installed by default as they don't need it, Admin is usually from the command line. Desktops use the X Server.

Play Bonny!

also 6.1 is 2 years old and out of date
the current is RHEL 6.5

You also NEED to buy the REQUIRED support contract from redhat
RHEL really is not free to use
https://www.redhat.com/wapps/store/catalog.html
the standard 1 year desktop license is $ 299 per year

or
install the FREE rebuild CentOS 6.5
http://centos.org/

I think there is a way to use the dvd also and restart the installer to add in stuff. Actually you restart the installer from the OS and use the dvd. Guess you could use the dvd also in this case and boot from it and just fix it that way if you just started. It's worth going over the installer again.
