How to get the genuine linux bootable cd on free

I am very much interested to use the LINUX OS. Few days ago i heard that the linux authority send the bootable os cd to the consumers for free. Is that is true? If true then how can i get that cd for free??

1. There is no Linux Authority
2. There was and is never a genuine bootable cd of Linux as Linux is only a kernel and needs other things to be useful
3. Linux Distributions which have that extra stuff included have in the past offered free cd's to those who had no other way of getting their distribution.
4. Most of those free cd programs have vanished
5. If your bandwidth poor and can not download an entire Linux Distribution you should search around for a nearby LUG (Linux Users Group) for help.

Also, if there are any Linux magazines in shops in your country, they usually contain DVDs with several Linux distributions.

Let me answer your question, if I may. LQ has an area you can
go to and download any distrubution you want for "Free", burn it to a CD and voilè OR You can e-mail or snail-mail (regular mail) the company you're interested inand ask for the CD bootable disc.

Since your new to Linux there is Peanut Linux, Ubuntu Linux, and several other distrubutions available.

I'm sure you'll get more replies after mine. These are good chaps and do want to help. They've answered all my questions so far.

There are no linux authority.

ubuntu used to send free linux CDs before but they do not anymore, as they have already sent millions of CDs.
Fedora does not officially send any CDs but they have partners which does, but its not gurrented. You can check the fedora website to see if they have any partners (mainly they are individual people/organization) they might send you free live CDs.

Best option is to download the latest version and burn it to CD or DVD.

If you have a Linux literate friend you might just mention what you are thinking and see if they have an old (not TOO old) CD or DVD that they are willing to share. I used to hand out DSL (Dman Small Linux) bootable business cards at meetings. Linux people are, in general, very willing to share.

Seems this is a English translation issue we can't understand exactly.

Ubuntu used to offer free cd's by mail. Don't think they do that anymore. Almost every country can order cd's by mail for a small fee.

Most users download an ISO file to make their own cd or dvd.

If you want you can go do SuseStudio and make or use one of the Suse's. At the end of the build you can run your new linux in a web browser. No need to download anything.
