How to get rid of gnome and only use xfce in Ubuntu 11.10
I was able to somehow manage logging into xfce and remove unity and the gnome panel. But I notice that there are still elements of gnome running in my system. This is what I see when I do ps ax | grep gnome.
I want to get rid of all of those things in there that I don't need, and use only xfce. The only exception is gnome-do, which I setup as a startup application.
How can I get totally clear from gnome and use only xfce?
Well the best way would probably be to install Xubuntu. If you make a /home partition, you could then keep your files that you want. Other then that, I would have to look up every package you have listed to be sure it is safe to remove. It appears that several of those are dependencies of Gnome-Do; they might all be even.

That one is safe to remove. Some programs will use it if it stays installed like network manager, but everything will work just fine without it. Or with it if you want to keep it for some reason.

Why is it safe to remove? Is there any reason why I would want to keep it? Does xfce have something equivalent to it that's already running?
Easiest way to remove unwanted gnome remains is through synaptic packege manager, there you can see the description of each thing, also using the filter just typing `gnome` you will get the list of all gnome stuff installed. The same way you can add Xfce components, applets etc.
